Easter (Egg) Gratitude

Today was one of those lovely days that can only be considered a precious gift.  Beautiful messages and music in church this morning, good friends to be silly with this afternoon, and of course some spectacular egginess.  Because the egginess can’t be stopped, don’t you know?  White or brown, they are filled with nutritiousness and always up for a little fun.  As always and especially at Easter, I am grateful for eggs.

I’m also grateful that today was not a Mad Hair Day,

as sometimes happens.  Also that I didn’t turn pink and sprout horns, despite all the candy I ate.  This was an uncomfortably close call.  Next year I really must lay off the fluffy pink sugars and keep my eye firmly fixed on the chocolate.

Which remindes me–I’m grateful that my kids never noticed Slinky Worm.  He and I have a deal.  He slyly slips through their unsuspecting bags of sweets, and swindles any likely treats.  In exchange I feed him the wrappers.

Don’t mind his grumpy face.  He’s really quite happy with this arrangement!

Last but not least, I’m extraordinarily grateful that our home was passed by when the zombie egg came calling.

He must have mistook all our running around and screaming as a sure sign we’d cracked.  His loss, our gain!

Happy Easter, Everyone!

Jillian would have loved to do these egg creations. I’m excited for her and R to get reaquainted.

We didn’t color eggs this year because I am tired of coloring boring easter eggs….if I had only known what YOU were doing with your eggs! Next year WE are making monster eggs.

How did I miss all these comments on my post! You guys are awesome for stopping by–it never fails to warm my little heart. 🙂

We do love our monsters. Sometimes I feel just a little…lacking in propriety? But, they’re so much fun! Next year I can’t wait to try a new technique I read somewhere–you pull the piping hot egg from the boiling water with tongs and sprinkle it with crayon bits. The crayon’s supposed to melt down the side in gorgeous rainbow streaks. I’m betting that plus monster hair would make for some serious fun!

PS I also want to do rainbow butterflies and birds, and a barnyard. We’ve got less than a year to wait! 😉

PS Before anyone jumps to the conclusion that the above egg is a self-portrait, note the yellow hair. My ‘do’ may resemble this at times, but my hair is never yellow!

Thanks, and for you, too! Now all we need to do is see how many boiled-egg-inspired recipes we can come up with over the next few days!

I can’t stand mayo (or any of its cousins) so we’re more likely to be going for deviled eggs (mustard-based) and sliced eggs in white sauce over biscuits. Mmm, that sounds good for tonight.

Then there’s always the old faithful–mash them up, warm ’em up, add S&P and eat!

I’m too into mayo, I guess. But then, I’ve also never heard of doing them in country gravy like that before either! I guess you never know what new things you are going to find in a day to learn! 😀
