Marvelous Middle Grade Monday: B Magical

This story is proof that good things can come in small packages!  B Magical: The Missing Magic is a slim little book, and the story’s not terribly complex, but it packs a lot of fun into those pages.  My favorite bit was undoubtably the hamster, which you can see there on the cover, looking like he’s not exactly thrilled to be hanging out.

I also really enjoyed the way Lexi Connor explored unintended side-effects of the B’s actions.  And the way those choices build on each other, creating new situations with their own entertaining challenges.  I really can’t say much more than that without giving things away, but I think this book would be an excellent choice for a child just branching out into middle grades, or even an older child who wants something sweet and fun, that will provide a comfort read when life is a little daunting.  I highly recommend it!

But, let’s see what the Apricot-kitty has to say.  You know she’s always got to add her two bits!

Apricot Headshot opinion looking down“That girl was trouble, T-R-O-U-B-L-E, trouble!  I hate to ever find myself agreeing with a bite of lunch like that hamster, but he got that right.  To think–setting off sprinklers?  And all that running around, not to mention breaking things.  Someone ought to sit that girl down and teach her a thing or two beyond spelling!”

I think…my cat just made a pun.  Get it, the girl is always spelling words while trying to her magic spelling down right! hahaha!  Okay, maybe not that funny.  Anyway, what books have you been reading lately?  Got any you can recommend?

Don’t you love it when that happens? That’s kinda where I am with The Art of Disappearing (mentioned above), only since I haven’t read anything by the author yet I may go the library route. Love it when they pull you in and won’t let you go, though!

Okay, adding Spartacus to the list! I looked for The Amaranth Enchantment while toodling around at the library today and they didn’t have it, but after we chatted my librarian lady (the queen of awesome) said she’d try to get it and put me first in line. I also picked up Rump, by Liesl Shurtliff, which has been on my To Purchase list, but I got tired of waiting for the cash to come in and so snagged it today. Yay new books! 😀

I just added Rump to my wish list on Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Rumplestiltskin is one of my favorite fairy tales, and I have long wanted to do a retelling of it, so I’m always fascinated when I come across one. I’ll be interested to hear your review!

Woot! It will be a couple Mondays before I spotlight it ’cause I want to do Andersen’s fairytales next, but I will let you guys know when I do! I started it last night and am thoroughly enjoying so far. 🙂

Asha wrote an outstanding Rumplestiltskin novel. 🙂 And just to clarify on Spartacus–I really loved the first 10 pages. But that’s all I’ve read. I’ll keep you posted on the rest.
