Flash Friday on All Hallow’s Day–Demon Dog and the Shadows

This post is in honor of Zeke, who puts nightly terror into all young chicken thief-wannabes throughout our deep and dark woods.

Zeke as demon dog

Demon Dog and the Shadows

Yep, it all happend on the night of shadows.  But, you need to know before I tell you that I’m not such a young dog, so this isn’t my first Halloween.  I know the small humans like to hide themselves under bright colors, waving stuff, and funny shapes.  They also cry easier than normal, and they smell like something you’d want to hold down and lick til you’re tongue had scoured every drop.  But none of them are chicken thieves.

It’s the shadows that I have to watch.  They flit, here, and there, hoping to get by me while I’m wagging my tail saying ‘yes please thank you so much’ to the kid who just dropped his candy, then stepped in it.  Quick as a lantern’s swing a shadow slips past me and jumps into the coop.  The chickens, they set up a cackle, but the gate is closed and I can’t get in the quick way.  I run fast as four legs can carry you around the backside and slip through my hole under the pasture fence.  Then it’s a quick burst across the pasture and I’m inside the coop.

Well, you’d think that was fast enough, but you’d be wrong.  I barked the shadow out and made sure it fled, but the damage was already done.  Every one of those chickens had been turned into a pumpkin, with beady eyes and candy corn beaks.  Some of them still had their feathers, but they wouldn’t be laying any more eggs.  The only thing they’d be making would be pies, and I don’t mean the kind with dumplings.  So, let that be a warning to you, young pup.  Anything can happen on shadows night.  Don’t let your guard down, and don’t be fooled by a bit of smashed candy on the ground.

Okay, there it is!  Let’s see what you all have to offer!  Linky is on the Flash Friday page, but I’ll also follow-back anyone who leaves a comment. 🙂

LOVE Zeke! He looks seriously nightmarish and hero at once. Great story (and voice, as ever), and your last line cracked me up :D.

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! This pic was an accident, but might be my favorite of him. Note the tilt of his head, and that his tail was mid-wag. Yes, that’s one ferocious demon dog, there! lol

Where do I write this? On my own blog? In your comments? What’s a linky and what do I do with it? And why does your dog have laser vision?

My dog has lazer vision because he needs that to see the Shadows, of course! lol The best thing is to write your flash piece and post it on your blog, then copy your url from that post and paste it in the linky here. The page with the linky has a tab at the top of the page that says ‘Flash Friday–Linky here!’, but you can also find it here: https://suzannewarr.com/flash-friday-under-construction. On that page is a little blue frog button that says ‘Add your link’, and when you click on it there will be a place for your copied url, your name, and your email. I don’t do anything funny with the email, so no worries there. 😉 Once you put them in there click the ‘submit link’ button and your name will show up after mine and E’s with a hyperlink to your blog with the flash piece. Yay!

It actually sounds kinda complicated when it’s all written out like that and I know blog hops can be weird when you haven’t done them, so feel free to ask other questions or email me–I’ll help! 😀
