Akismet Filter

Okay, so hopefully I’ve finally solved my problems with spam comments.  It turns out that Akismet (thanks again for the recommendation, Jordan) was sitting in my account waiting for me to turn it on all along.  Ye know, I’m finding that sometimes it’s a good thing to read those blabbery notices sent when you start up

SF Reader Forum

You’ll notice a couple new names in my blogroll, Jordan Lapp and Von Darkmoor, and I’ll probably be adding more in the next while.  I’ve discovered a forum, SF Reader, that has some cool folks and great links. Check it out.  They might bark, but they don’t bite.

Hand-picking Comments

Anyone who’s a regular (anyone? anyone?) I’m sure has noticed all the obnoxious spammy comments that have been making it through my filter.  The eventual goal will be to provide some extra checks to automatically filter at a higher level, but in the meantime I’ve changed my options so every comment will need my approval

Spam Infiltration

You may have noticed my sudden breach in spam detection–I obviously need to up the controls.  What’s puzzling is why I’m suddenly getting plastered, and how they’re getting through my spam block. Not that my detections are so great, just that the ‘bots didn’t get through before.  And if they had to bust in on the party, couldn’t

A Blogging Landmark

According to my blog stats this is my two hundredth blog–either that or my two hundredth and tenth, it doesn’t seem sure which. At any rate, I thought two hundred deserved some kind of notice.  Apparently I passed up one hundred without noting it flying by.  A good omen, that.  So here’s to the blogging

Chilling Through the Holidays

Consider yourselves forewarned.  With Christmas at the doorstep I’m giving myself permission to go into holiday blogging mode, which means I only blog if I can’t stop myself. I know the withdrawal from my witty, fascinating and informative writing will be hard to take, but I promise to return in January fully refreshed and ready to

Seeing Double

I checked the site after posting this morning and found that one of my posts, Human Barometer, had been mulitplying during the night.  Does anyone know of a prevention for blog post reproduction?  I’m assuming it was asexual reproduction, probably mitosis.  I sincerely hope it wasn’t anything skankier than that! I nixed the extra blog.  Let’s hope

A Flood of Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot about blogs that enable comments vs. those that don’t.  Mine has fallen into the latter category up to date, because I was concerned that managing comments would take time or be awkward.  But yesterday Nancy tried to leave a comment and wasn’t able too.  My one comment! So I’ve decided to

Please Wipe Your Feet: Freshly Set Tile

We got the long-awaited tile up, as you can see.  We used a seamless background tile by StarFields, which needed a bit of tweaking but worked well.  I wanted the ferns to have an engraven look, to keep the site from being overwhelmed by a riot of green.  ‘Course, now I’m thinking that the blue in the header
