I’ve discovered a new love.
No, not that kind!Â
The mystery genre caught my attention for a few years in my tweens but I have’t visited it since.  Then over the holidays I was desperate for a book and feeling like something different, so when I dug through my book stack and found Dead Cert, a novel by Dick Francis, I picked it up and started to read.
And kept reading.
When I finished it a day or two later I looked up Mr. Francis ‘just to see if he was anybody out there’ and found that not only is he a grand master in his field, with shelves of books to his name, but the book I’d just read was his first novel.
Very impressive. So often when first books are spoken of it’s with an understanding note: ‘Pretty good, for a first book’. But there are no excuses needed or pardons asked in Dead Cert.
So I have a new writing aspiration, and a new favorite author to read.
No complaints here.
