Writing for the Wrong Editor

A writing friend got an inside tip that the editor of Weird Tales was looking for short cat stories.  I said “Aha!” and pulled out my (mostly unwritten) tiger goddess story, thinking that might be a perfect fit.  I finished it yesterday and threw it up for my group to rip apart, but I was feeling pretty good about it.  It had a ‘cat,’ it was short (at 2,000 words) the magic/fantasy element is unique, it’s even a little weird.  What could go wrong?

My friend gave me a great critique, then said, “You might want to send this in a new direction.  I’m just not sure this will work for Weird Tales–the editor said he hates talking cat stories.”

What the *&^%#!

Okay . . . deep breath.  There’s got to be someone else who wants a cat story *and* allows said cats to communicate in some other way than ‘meow.’
