Ever dreamed of having your own private escape route underground? I did. In my childhood fantasies the tunnels were a private escape from the prying eyes of parents and siblings.  My tunnels had all the allure of my own kingdom, and of course they were the cool kind of tunnels that never caved in, leaked, or attracted bugs.
Maybe that’s what William Lyttle had in mind with his little excavation project, but the sinkhole folks would probably object if he moved into the neighborhood.
Or maybe not; at least if you’ve got a wise guy down there tunneling you can request an out-of-the-elements passage to the store.   Â
