I came across this interpretive list of flower meanings on Yahoo buzz.

I wonder how many people know or use their meanings–and if the recipient would get the message.  Of course, I personally never see a daffodil without thinking of chivalry, and that most common of all back yard flowers, the sunflower, most assuredly captures the essence of pure thoughts–but then I have enlightened taste in flowers.  All the Lilacs in the world can only aspire to the subtle wisdom of true flower interpretation.
