My mid-grade novel’s rewrite is going sloooow. Â Not sure if that’s a good thing, but I can’t seem to speed it up. Â One problem is I keep stopping to change things, such as some of the underlying motivation, and the mythos which will prove the strongest base for this series. Â It’s fun, though, and I’m pretty sure the book will be better off in the end.
One cool change is I’ve switched the Halloween party at the end to a Halloween Hall, or Spook Alley inside the school.  This lets me come up with all kinds of disgusting things to mess with my characters’ minds and generally freak them out.  The fact that there’ll be some pretty bad dudes showing up to crash the party–and bring the world to an end–doesn’t hurt. Of course, my characters will bring it all to rights before we’re through but why not have a good time until then?
Remind me another time to tell the story of our family spook alley when we were kids, and how my mother led me to believe I’d been branded…::shudder::
