I hit a deer Wednesday night. But unlike the last one, this one was a big fellow who was running so hard when he came out of the woods that he jumped above the level of the car bumper and really mashed our grill and hood. Did some damage to the stuff under the hood, too.
Just to make things extra fun, I locked up my right arm on the steering wheel at impact. The good thing about that was it kept the car on the road when it tried to jerk into the ditch. That’s a pretty sizeable plus, given the depth of that ditch, but the bad part is that the impact was transferred into my arm, giving me a small fracture on the tip of the radius arm bone.
Even that’s not so great a problem. My arm’s just a little swollen and will be in a splint for a few weeks. All things considered, we came off pretty well.
Except I’m leaving for bootcamp the day after tomorrow and need a functioning car and an arm ready to type ten hours a day!
I know, saying that the timing could be better is kind of a moot point, as the truth is it would never be convenient to have my right arm in a splint. I’m managing to type, albeit at a quarter of my usual speed, and I should be grateful for that.
And I will be. Just as soon as I’ve finished grumbling.
