Pumpkin Days

We attended a Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat tonight, and I was struck by how much fun the various kids had explaining their costumes.  While of course there is the stray child who feels frustrated when no one knows what they are, many seem to take a sort of guilty pleasure out of confessing that they’re supposed to be Nemo, or a demon from the 7th level of purgatory.

I guess one could argue that it’s like giving a presentation of your science project at school, only you enjoyed the project, and regardless of it’s success you’ll be rewarded with a pile of candy.  What’s not to like?

I also saw plenty of this tonight.

Or, the human equivalent.  Small children dressed as Dora or Thomas, their eyes glazed and their arms weighed down by the volume of candy in their bucket.  But, since everyone knows that the parentals are the real beneficiaries of anything chocolate and tasty in the pail, the tots have ready volunteers to make sure they make it around all the trunks of treats.  I guess that’s what they call a symbiotic relationship.

Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research on this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such fantastic info being shared freely out there.
