If I were the squeeing type, I’d be squeeing over here. Impossible, you think? Let me explain.
Since I wrote three novels over the last year plus, I’m doing a lot of revising of late. When I’m writing a novel the first time through, I want everyone to go away, be quiet, leave me alone, and don’t come back until I’m done. Usually two to three months later. In the re-write stage, I find that I want to talk whenever I get stuck–as in, talk until I can make the stuck bits move again–and I like to listen to music. Lots of music, usually loud.
The catch is that I’ve been out of new music circles for a while, and never did pay it a lot of attention. I’m the friend who sings along to all the songs you ripped for her, and never knows the name of the band. Can you see the problem, here? Where do I find the ‘lots of music’ above? Especially since the two novels I’m juggling re-writes on right now are wildly different and need very different music.
The situation has forced me to do some fairly serious scrounging, even digging into my husband’s old heavy metal collection, and my thirteen year old’s what-have-you stuff. Given my naivete, I think I’ve cobbled together a pretty good collection, and it’s seeing me through. But, tonight I found a new favorite song to go on the playlist. I can thank literary agent Michael Stearns over on the Upstart Crow blog for the tip, and yes, if you listen you’ll easily pick out my favorite line.

I’m much indebted for the Frank Turner find, but let’s not stop there. I know once in awhile people read this blog. If you’ve got some music to suggest, speak up! Keep in mind that my current repertoire spans selections from Les Miserables to the Coyote Ugly soundtrack, and slices Weird Al amongst the many Good Charlotte songs. Let’s hear ’em!
