I think I’ve mentioned before that I have trouble with spelling. Nothing that a copy editor or a good dictionary can’t fix, but occasionally I find myself forelorn and lonesome without spellcheck or Websters close at hand.
At times like that I generally try to word my phrases very creatively, spelling around the pesky words that won’t look right. This system works great – until I’m writing down a recipe.
I recently scribbled out a recipe for a certain kind of quick bread which uses a tropical fruit that is slightly crescent shaped (rhymes with O’hana and starts with a B), and in the course of that recipe I wrote this word four times.  Can you guess how many ways I misspelled it?
That’s right! Four.
Bannanna
Bananna
Bannana
Banaana
But then hey, who needs a particular yellowish fruit that grows high in tropical trees in bunches and which is eaten by pulling back the peel? Not me. Never heard of it, in fact.
