Winter Party Despite the Weather

I’m in the midst of planning a winter party.  Now, if we lived somewhere frigid and obligingly snowy, we’d just pack everyone off to go sledding, toss a few snowballs, warm up with hot chocolate, and call it good.

Since the brief dusting of snow we had a month ago will probably be the last we see of white this winter, I’m forced to get creative.  Or, since I’m lazy and my writing is channeling off all my creativity, I’m forced to search the internet.  Some of my favorite ideas were:

  • Snowman outdoor decorations made from stuffed white trash bags.  They suggested various fillers, we’ll use a few thousand of the leaves sitting in our yard.
  • A snowball fight in which the snowballs are waded up white socks.  Love this one.
  • Serve snowman soup, made from hot chocolate, candy canes, Hershey’s hugs, etc.

My own additions were pin the body part on the Snowman, in which each child adds a carrot nose, twig arm, coal button or what have you.  I expect the result to be a masterpiece to make picasso proud.

Build your own edible snowman, from marshmallows, pretzel rods, chocolate chips, etc.

And, of course, a ‘snowball’ pinata.  I’m sure that it’s not original, but I didn’t see it listed anywhere.  The ideas are still rolling in, but I think it’s shaping up to be a fun party.  Especially since I have the wisdom to pass on a couple of the other ideas out there…playing in ‘snow’ packing peanuts?  Does this mother just love to clean 24/7 or what?  And the ‘ice skating pond’ of shaving cream didn’t seem a lot wiser, to my jaded eye.  Each to their own, I suppose.

Snowman Soup sounds like a great idea. As you might surmise, if we did it in our house it would be served with a long story of how the snowman not so willingly gave his life to populate the list of ingredients. The candy cane pieces would be shattered bones, the hot chocolate would become clotted snowman blood gravy, etc.

Did I ever mention that the favorite household cartoon is now Making Fiends?

    Sounds…appetizing. Really.

I wasn’t familiar with that cartoon, so I went and looked it up. Holy Cow! Talk about warm and fuzzy. I think your soup would be a new fav on the show. 😉

It’s especially hilarious when Son Number Three tries to sing the theme song. “Making Beans, Making Beans, Oh bother, Making Beans.”
