Last night we were supposed to see an art show, for our daughter, and attend a winter concert in which our son participated. Instead, we got me to the doctor, drove all over town not quite making necessary connections, cleaned up vomit, and mopped up after our flooding fishtank. Our son and his dad did make it to the winter concert, but everything else was a wash.
However, I decided that I’m cool with that. The circumstances in which we define ourselves as individuals, in which character is grown, are more often the train wreck days than the ones when everything goes as planned. This is true of fictional characters, when we show our reader who this person is by allowing them to deal with the twists and turns of our convoluted plots, and I think it’s true of real life, too. So, yay for train wreck days.
