Sore Feet in Atlanta

First, happy April Fool’s Day!  I’d planned on coming up with some clever joke for the blog, but expended all my cleverness trying to get back in the house in an obnoxious and early April Fool’s joke I played on myself.

Sigh.  Maybe next year.

After a very rocky start on Tuesday in which the locksmith was finally called, then of course our hotel admitted to having taken our reserved rooms off the available list when we finally rolled in about midnight–we’re here.

Today we went to see the King Tut exhibit.  We spent hours longer than we’d planned, so the Terracotta Warriors will have to wait ’til Friday, but it was worth every minute.  I wished over and over that I could take pictures, but alas, photography wasn’t allowed.  It was great to see first hand the jar Queen Tiy used for her eye makeup, a miniature ship which was to accompany King Tutankhamun when he arrived at the after life, and the scarabs that protected the hearts of royal mummies.  If only I could have touched and handled everything, I’d be in heaven.  Better that I can’t, I suppose.  The longing and mystery are half the fun.

Tomorrow we’ll immerse ourselves in the Aquarium, and I may just learn enough about oceanic reefs to satisfy me for one day.  The trip to the Everglades did wonders for its coresponding part in my Mer/Meru world, and I’m hoping that eventually I can wrap my brain around reefs as well.

Oh, and we’ll probably take in the World of Coca-Cola sometime tomorrow.  Just so we can say that we turned down 99% of the samples, and didn’t even try any Coke.  But you never know.  We might get a t-shirt.
