Older By the Minute

Our son is now twelve, and starting to take an interest in music.  We were sitting around our hotel eating dinner when he asked me when the Beatles first played.

Not being much of a music historian I answered, “Quite a while ago–before my time.”

He nodded knowingly,  “Oh, so in the 1800’s?”

Apparently he’s also joined the ranks of teens with ancient parents.

Very similar conversations have occurred with my fifteen year old son. He once tried to tell me what Nirvana was like when they were just starting out and I had to stop him. “Dude, I was there!”

See, how can we be both ancient and clueless in their eyes? Or is it that we’re so old we’re also losing our mind?

    Maybe I shouldn’t ask.
