…otherwise known as Spring Cleaning?

Yesterday we flooded the basement. Or at least gave it a hasty baptism and impromtu reorganization.  What began with a simple, routine change of the sediment filter took a quick course change when we found that turning off the pump and shutting off the main water valve into the house were not enough–it’s difficult to say, in

Writing and Review Link

It’s always nice when I come across a really useful writing or writerly blog, and Wands and Worlds definitely qualifies.  Check out this discussion on ferreting out the undiscovered gems that find themselves hidden in the shadows of the bestseller list. Thanks for some wonderful insights, Sheila, and welcome to the blogroll!

Inside Out Chickens

Yesterday when I came home, I found the cat sitting soaking up some sun–inside the chicken coop. The chicks, on the other hand, were wandering around under the trees. I can’t imagine what gave them the urge to relocate.  After my first laugh, I did a quick count and realized that we were missing the sixth

Unbelievable Hubble Pics

They always say that truth is stranger than fiction, and these pics demonstrate that well.  If an author came up with these galaxies, plenty of critiques would deride them as impractical and way over the top. Two favorites of mine are The Sombrero, And Starry Night, because it’s impossible to look at these galaxies without hearing

From the Mouths of Babes

I packed six seven-ish year-olds around today, and also spent a couple hours with another troop of kids ranging from toddlers to ten year-olds.  The latest joke I was told? We brought home new chicks over the weekend.  They’re two weeks old, or thereabouts, and a cross between Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red.   They may look young, but these sweet little pullets are already producing fantastic eggs.  Just check out this assortment! We have the Purple Planet Egg,   an Easter Valentine,

A Seussian Muse

In perusing the history section of my local library, I came across this book:   Of course I checked it out, fell in love, and ran over to Amazon to see about getting my own copy.  This hardcover edition is pricey and/or out of print, so I’ll have to check carefully into newer editions or alternative versions

Boot Camp Minus the Army

I’m thinking about applying for entrance to bootcamp. No, not the Army, or the Marines.  Even I have some extremes I won’t go to!  No, this would be the sit-around-and-write kind of bootcamp, as offered by Orson Scott Card. I’ve looked over my shoulder and wondered about bootcamp before, as I watched my friends traipse through
