Submiting out of Stubborness

Last week, before our trip, I got Icarus ready to go to Trabuco Road.  They reopened their submissions on March 3rd, or there abouts, so my plan was to be ready and submit as soon as they opened.  But with issues stacked on excuses, I didn’t sit down to send it ’til last night. It was all

An Ostrich at Heart

I’ve noticed something.  I have a tendency to ignore small, nuisance problems with more studious avoidance the longer they’ve been bugging me. Bigger problems are okay.  I guess my psych knows they won’t just disappear, no matter how fine the sand in which I bury my head. But the little things–fixing some online error which

Liquid Money

Our recent travels left me with a mental picture in my mind in which an airport bigwig is directing his subordinate. Bigwig: “We have a new rule.  No more liquids carried on to flights.” Peon: “Yes, sir.  Does that include water?” Bigwig: “Absolutely.  Water represents a grave threat to our national security.” Peon: “Even newly purchased, still sealed

Online Again

We headed west for a wedding early last week, but as I had every intention of spending plenty of time blogging I said no online goodbyes. What if a world existed that only had these up-curved rainbows?  There’d be no dreams of leprechauns and pots of gold, no lucky puddles

Are We Done with the Oscars Yet?

Am I the only one who doesn’t care a twit about the Oscars?  I’ve never watched them yet, and don’t plan to unless someone I know personally is nominated–so I’m pretty safe.  And while I did have an interest in movies/actors who won awards during the years that the LOTR movies were in the running,

Free Read of Voice of the Sea

I’ve posted my mer story, Voice of the Sea, over in the Baen’s Universe Slush Conference.  This is the story I’ve oft refered to as my ‘Keela’ story, and was a quarter-finalist at WOTF.  You get to it through the Bar link, which may require a sign in/password, then drop down to the slush conference for

Top Plusses of Geeky Guys

Here’s a funny list I couldn’t resist posting, Why Geeks and Nerds are Worth it . . ., which I linked to through John Scalzi’s blog.  A few favorites would be: 1.) While geeks and nerds may be awkward, they’re well-meaning 9 out of 10 times. That smooth dude with the sly grin and the
