Straight From Mt. Tissue

I’m almost afraid to blog today because I can’t trust my coherency, but given that it’s been roughly two weeks since a post went up, I figure I’d better reassure the blogosphere that I’m still alive and kicking.

It’s even mostly true.

Yesterday I celebrated having (finally!) kicked my sinus infection.  It had been a struggle of almost three weeks, so it was great to feel infection-free and ready to dig into life.

This morning I got up, got a good start on the day which included the full two-mile circuit I prefer for my workout, and completed my writing goals for the day by 3:30 this afternoon.  And it’s a good thing, ’cause that’s right about when the sneezes started.  Followed by sniffles, coughing, and piles of tissues.

But, you know, I’ll take a nasty cold like this any day over a sinus infection, because these colds don’t usually last.  And, hey, if it does, at least I work from home, right?

Speaking of which, it was impossible for me to read this Forbes article about the hunt for pricey and gorgeous mineral specimens without thinking of the novel and short story possibilities.  Okay, sure, that’s not what the article intended to address, and I have enough interest in lovely bits of rocks to enjoy the article for its own sake.  But the story spark contained in this acount of daredevil rock hunting is the kind of thing that can jolt a writer straight out of a cold-fuzed fog and into story heaven.

I’m grateful that I love my job, even when I have a cold and must lean across Mt. Tissue to jot down my thoughts, and I’m grateful that this world never stops inspiring.  Here’s to gorgeous rocks!

Thanks to the Ambassador’s Journal for the great pic!
